The Massif of Tsaranoro in Andringitra has already been confirmed as one of the most sought after climbing spots in the southern hemispehere. The Mountain of the French, dominating the Bay of Diego Suarez, of northwest oriented, which protects its 2 climbing there is June through September. In the Nosy Hara, archipelago, the islets of Andatsara and Anjombavola have also begun to take up this sport.
The possibilities for rafting are unlimited, provide there is good supervision by professionals, as some rivers may be dangerous. The Andringitra with its numerous small rivers suitable for kayak and canoe; the Lily in Itasy, and the Mazy in the same region with its course winding between the volcanic domes, where jolting and foaming are guaranteed in some passages.
Access to the spots for Canyoning often requires real expeditions including long hours of walking and crossing of forests. In Isalo, canyon trekking is practised only in rainy season. Opened in 1997, reaching this spot is extremely challenging.
Paragliding arrived in Madagascar in mid 90's. Weather canditions in Itasy are favourable for long flight. Andringitra is also a “top spot” for free flying with its stable weather conditions, its spectacular scenery and its very cooperative people.
25km to the southwest of Antsirabe, the small mountain chain of Ibity offers a landscape of crumbling rocks and jagged ridges. The Massif of Ankerana, 90km to the south of Diego Suarez is a real “gruyère” with its network of underground water, such as the Manjeba which runs through it from one side to the other.
